Once on an old piece of carpet in a disused, musty coal-

Eric certainly didn't see it -
If you want to know what happened to Eric, then it’s quite likely you’d enjoy Paul Newman’s company. He’s a rough, tough, jolly sort of fellow who plays lots of songs from various times and climes and can usually find a melody to suit the mood. He has been known to tell a few stories to help to pass the time and likes the fact that other people enjoy cricket. If you’re looking for meaning, substance or your average run of the mill entertainer, you should probably not hire Mr. Newman.
He’s tapped.

Lou started performing as a singer/guitarist in 1979, when he was 26, and since then has sung and played in various pubs, Folk Clubs and at Festivals, mainly in South Yorkshire but sometimes further afield.
For 6 years in the 1990’s he was one half of the duo ‘Twofold’ and in 2001 he formed
‘Travelling Folk’, a troupe of 9 performers who for a couple of years offered guest
nights comprising short sets from as many of the 9 who were a
vailable.
Lou’s repertoire is varied and includes songs written by Jez Lowe, Ralph McTell, Leonard Cohen, Lennon/McCartney and many others. He particularly likes singing a wide range of songs by Bob Dylan and for 6 years from 2000 hosted an annual Dylan night at the Red House in Sheffield.
Lou also ran the Booit Straps Folk Club at The Commercial, Chapeltown, for 3 years from 1983 and again for 4 ½ years from 1998.He has also run 3 or 4 guitar classes each week for over 25 years now, encouraging many people to perform in class, some of whom have now become regulars at various Folk Clubs in South Yorkshire.
Lou’s main ‘15 minutes of fame’ so far though is appearing on Channel 4’s ‘Countdown’ in 2001, winning twice, and therefore being the owner now of a ‘Countdown’ teapot.
At the moment Lou does not have presence on the great www so for contact please Email Acoustic Rotherham and we will pass the message on.

Dave Cowan is a singer and guitar player, originally from Glasgow, who has been singing
all sorts of folk songs for many years. He has a relaxed, easy style and a mellow
voice with a quiet authority which also makes him a popular MC at folk clubs and
sessions. Dave has been collecting and singing folk songs for 40 years. In primary
school at age 10 he won the school singing prize – because he was the only one prepared
to stand up and sing in front of the class. He has been performing ever since -
TAYLOR MAID -
Now here is a class act that does not get the local r
ecognition that they deserve.
Playing a superb mix of Blues, Jazz and swing, Taylor Maid never fail to have me mesmerized.
Of course their main claim to fame is being the first ever act to appear at Acoustic Rotherham, but this time around we are fixing to give them a prime afternoon spot so that more people can appreciate their fantastic musicianship.
Unfortunately there is no Myspace page yet but to book Taylor Maid

TINA McKEVITT & MATT HEGARTY (SHEFFIELD)
Since forming their duo in late 2007 Tina and Matt have recorded their CD “The Dewdrop
on the Barley” and built up a live acoustic set. They perform folk music with a contemporary
twist, specializing in original compositions and interpretations of less
well known
traditional songs. Both experienced performers, they draw heavily on their Irish
musical backgrounds which they integrate with other musical styles and influences
to produce interesting and sensitive arrangements.
Having grown up in a strong family singing tradition, Tina particularly enjoys the immediacy and intimacy of a cappella singing. Her main role in the duo is that of vocalist but she also accompanies herself and Matt on the piano accordion, melodica and guitar. Tina’s songwriting tends to reflect her interests in politics and social justice.
Matt has been playing in bands of different musical styles since his teens. As well as playing guitar, bass, bodhran, mandolin and low whistle, Matt is a singer/songwriter and is a programmer and recording engineer. He is mainly influenced by various sorts of roots music including reggae, Irish traditional, rock and dance music.

THE ABBOT OF UNREASON -
"The Abbot of Unreason produced an unashamedly Jethro Tullish cum Traffic throwback
set with his own stamp of individuality........ bloomin’ marvellous." (Andy O'Hare
BBC

The Abbot of Unreason may “borrow” a few songs from rock legends such as Ian Anderson,
Pete Townsend and Zakk Wylde and folk-
As a soloist or as a member of acoustic rockers Marzipan Moon or blues duo Stompin’ on Spiders, the Abbot of Unreason has appreciative listeners on edge to hear what "little diamond from the rough" he will uncover next?
An old fool he may be, but when the Abbot of Unreason sails those long, forgotten songs around a misty headland in your memory, the reaction from the audience is always very positive and pleasing. See what you think.
We play mostly in the north east of England, and are happy to travel further afield

Quotes:
What a great pleasure to hear jiva twice in a week. Firstly at the Davy Lamp in Washington and then the Clarence in Blackpool. An act maturing with every show, and now displaying that precious ability to write songs that capture an audience's heart. The song about best friends is a pure winner. Superb!!!

"What a breath of fresh air! Michelle sings with a gravitas that belies her age and without a hint of sugary sentimentality. She is a great performer to have around whether she is singing traditional songs, her own songs or dancing with her Morris side. She performs with gusto and passion and very soon has the audience eating out of her hand." (Cath Ingham, Holmfirth Festival of Folk director)
Will Padfield is a 28-
Growing up in a musical family, Will found it impossible not to get sucked into playing
music and has been
battling this addiction quite unsuccessfully for the last 12 years
or so.
Proving that once you're bitten by the music bug it's impossible to shake the little bloodsucker off, even getting a "proper job" hasn't rehabilitated him, as he's currently skiving and writing this biography (albeit bizarrely in the third person!?) while at work.
Wills own songs are passionate singa/stompalong tunes filled with funky little hooks, lyrical twists and scathing social commentary, that reflect being from a generation obsessed with itself, nostalgia, celebrities and sitting around whinging about all of the above while logged onto face book.
Having tackled a variety of genres from show tunes and thrash metal through to country and electronica in the past, Wills influences are understandably vast and varied, and his current solo acoustic material reflects this, drawing on classic artists such as Neil Young, Jonny Cash, The Eagles and Jimi Hendrix, through to hard rock and metal bands such as Soundgarden and Pantera, while shamelessly pilfering the odd bit of jazz, blues and funk along the way, its a mixed bag of musical sweets with everything but the parma violets.
Ultimately, though there are only two types of music, good music and bad music and that all depends on your own opinion, which probably makes this biography a bit pointless, so make up your own minds, and hopefully Will Padfield will fall into the first category.
