A BIG ACOUSTIC ROTHERHAM WELCOME TO “OUR” STAN
We first came across Stan many years ago, thrashing out his self penned Blues songs at the Rotherham Singers Club at Rotherham Rugby Club.
His turn at the mic was always a special moment in the Club as we tried to anticipate just what he was going to produce next.
Then one week there was a change in his programme. Instead of approaching the stage with his classic Gibson guitar in hand, he had only a few sheets of paper.
Ten minutes later the Club was in fits of laughter.
It has taken me some time to twist Stan’s arm into letting me publish his work. We had all sorts of plans, but illness and family circumstances have got in the way.
We will be publishing two or three of Stan’s stories each week. I assure you there is quite a collection.
Eventually, we hope to be able to offer his readers and fans a collection of his work in down loadable format, or even in traditional tree cutting form, but that will have to wait for now.
"JUST FOR LAUGHS"
PRECIOUS GEMS FROM AN ELF INSPECTOR'S DIARY
By STAN BURGESS
I am indebted to my friend Mr. Ron Wheeler of for telling me most of these fascinating tales.
They give rise to mirth largely because many are based on fact, although I have often changed the names of characters and places. Evidently a sense of humour is required to be able to do his job.
I began with the Alien Story, which I had intended to be written as a song. After it's completion I had a strong compulsion to write many more adventures as I delved into the realms of comic verse to write scenarios of my own, many of which were based upon newspaper items into which our hero could normally be placed.
Thanks are very much owed to Jim Charters who generously gave me my first P.C. and so encouraged such creativity.
(He can seen in the caricature, drawn by myself, which was used in a programme to advertise The Rotherham Beer Festival.)
Thanks to Mrs. Brenda Wilson of Rotherham for checking my scripts for errors and for encouraging me to look for a publisher. Finally, thank you to Gil Foers for his help and
encouragement during the “Folk Music"sessions at Rotherham Rugby Club on Thursday nights.
