How these two get away with what they do is a mystery to me. But they claim to be
popular and
begged to be on to day’s bill. The promise of a bottle of whiskey,
which I’ve still to receive did the trick.
As you have guessed, these two lads are publicity shy, or as they claim, let their music do the talking for them.
What is for sure you will love their fusion of blues, rock and what might be described as contemporary folk. Their own songs are a real treat, but they will throw in a few covers as well.
They are bound to get you moving.
PENNY COOKE (LOCAL RAWMARSH GIRL)
EDITOR WRITES: From what I’ve heard of Penny’s material you are in for treat. She
writes all her own songs and while she claims to be in the Punk tradition, even the
hardened folkies are going to love her work.
This is her solo debut, although she has worked with area Punk legends Leatherzoo at one of their Boardwalk shows.
IN HER OWN WORDS:
I’m 16 years old
I love to write songs! its the most amazing thing in the world
I love the feeling when you make a song and its all done!
I want to make a professional career with my music!
I love it makes my world tick

I am a Singer/ Songwriter from Sheffield. I first started out on the folk scene in Sheffield way back the 1990s when someone started a session in my local pub, the Castle Inn at Bradway. I was immediately hooked. Soon I was asked to join a band formed by two of the people hosting the night to become the lead vocalist/guitarist.
This band was called “Hair Of The Dog” and I was with them until late in 2006, when
having grown tired of singing the same old (mainly Irish and Scottish) songs I decided
to leave the band. I took a break from music for a while, feeling that I needed to

Early in 2008 I decided that what I needed was a set of songs that I could call my
own and so I began to write and perform some original songs. This has resulted in
the making of my first album of original songs: Words And Music” which I recently

I am currently writing more songs and hope to have another album ready by this time next year. My songs can also be heard at my page on MySpace

The Lanterns are a Rotherham based trio, sometimes Quartet. They are close knit
harmony instrumental band. “Tight” hardly describes their stage performances. They
were regulars at Rudi’s Blue’s Café in the centre of Rotherham, and are much loved
on the general Rotherham music circuit.
The Lanterns are made up of Paul, a lead guitarist that will have your head spinning, Bob with classy lead vocals and Johno who plays any instrument that happens to be at hand (or so it seems). They are often joined by Martin (The Roguues) on bass.
Most of their material is covers but you’ll be surprised at the one or two light self written songs that they will throw into their set.
Being relatively new to the Rotherham music scene they are keen to improve their general profile.

Hey my name is Sian Simmons and I am 19.
I currently study a national diploma in practice music. I have been singing for about
5 years on and off, but have only
been playing guitar for around 3 years (I’m a bit
of a novice -
I’m currently writing songs and random lyrics all the time.
There are so many musicians that inspire me that I never know what to write or what
path to take. I love any and all types of music, I love listening to Motown , soul,
jazz, acappella and gospel , I also love hardcore dance, drum and bass, metal, funk,
psychedelia and dare I even say the occasional emo-
Truth is I’m just as mad as the rest of you if not more so.
And here’s a little secret -
EDITOR ADDS: Anyone who has listened to Sian’s tracks on Myspace will know just how talented this girl is.
Sian has made appearances at Under The Boardwalk and at several other session nights.
But I believe this is one of her first “show case” appearances -

EDITORS NOTE: Paul’s a bit shy – so here’s what they say about him……………… (they say a lot more but I cant print it here!!)
“Paul ambled up to the mic with a cheery "Ey up!", sat himself down and launched
into an explosive version of Springsteen's Youngstown. The savagery of the performance
was in total contrast to his amiable stage presence and immediately gripped the audience.
In many ways, Springsteen is an anomaly in Paul's set because he specializes in songs
by unjustly obscure writers like Tom Pacheco, Ron Truman Border and Paul Jones (The
great singer-
“With Paul every song is an emotional journey, for both himself and his listener,
and what an excellent travel companion he makes. From rollicking chorus songs to
heartbreaking ballads, by the end of his set we're on our feet bellowing for more!
A wonderful evening.”
(Wayne Stote)
“Affectionately known as the Steel Town Troubadour, Paul, from Sheffield, specializes
in taking songs from excellent but obscure songwriters and turning them into PP Originals.
If the names Ron Trueman-
(The Abbey Inn Charity Music Festival)
“Up our way Paul is known as the Steel Town Troubadour. He has a way with a song that few possess. You can literally feel the warmth generated between him and his Audience. He really is a must see. When you add Chris Treebeard's instrumental wizardry and Michele's sublime voice to the mix, it makes for a real heady brew, indeed.”
(Jane de Gay (The Outsider))
EDITOR ADDS: He’s a star of the local music scene and his performances are always mesmerising – be prepared to sing.

Linda and Geoff Pearson are an acoustic folk and contemporary duo based in North Yorkshire.
Teesside born Geoff played guitar both as a solo performer and as a duo with Phil
Donegan in the '70s at the Sun, at Stockton and elsewhere in the North East, and
later alongside Ron Angel, in 'Northumbrian Folk' releasing two successful audiotapes
and performing widely. Geoff currently headlines Ceilidh Show band "Blind Stag".
Geoff can also be found at music sessions with mandolin, banjo and friends.
Liverpudlian Linda returned to singing and playing in Yorkshire during the '90s,
following a lengthy sabbatical raising children. Linda (former name 'Coffey') also

Geoff and Linda were honoured to join other musicians on tour with the Stockton Morris Men at the Midsummer Festival in Horndal in Sweden in the summer of 2007. We are able to offer a varied repertoire of material, from Elizabethan airs to contemporary songwriters.
In addition to club performances, we have experience as MC's for both singarounds and music sessions.
