ACOUSTIC ROTHERHAM 11
THE QUEENS, RAWMARSH
APRIL 2011
Rory Garforth & Adam Myers are the songwriting partnership at the
helm of a folk/acoustic collective, involving musicians from all over the UK.

With their base in South Yorkshire Garforth & Myers provide "lushly brewed melodious folk hypnosis; a multitude of and a master class in well crafted songs and understated delivery".
After initially meeting whilst involved separate musical projects Rory & Adam started working on material together, this would form the basis of a selection of demo's which attracted the attention of producers Keith Angel and Andy Seward; perhaps best known for their work with Jon Boden , Kate Rusby, Martin Simpson, John Tams, Chris Drever et al…
Work started on putting together an album after months of writing, planning and preparation and features the talents of Devon based Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll layering up lush string arrangements which has become integral to the sound.
With additions from Magazine's Dave Formula on electric piano and hammond, Andy Seward on Double Bass and Keith Angel on Drums and percussion the result has been one that all involved can be proud of reminiscent of artists such as Pentangle or John Martyn.
The resulting album is set to be release later in the year however the initial release is a four track EP entitled 'Bonfires' which is available to purchase online from amazon or CD baby or as MP3 Download from itunes.

My songs come from my own experience and surroundings. They all have a constant thread which touches upon honesty and truth. My songs connect and relate to an audience that has been waiting too long for something of depth and meaning.

I am a Singer/ Songwriter from Sheffield. I first started out on the folk scene in Sheffield way back the 1990s when someone started a session in my local pub, the Castle Inn at Bradway. I was immediately hooked. Soon I was asked to join a band formed by two of the people hosting the night to become the lead vocalist/guitarist.
This band was called “Hair Of The Dog” and I was with them until late in 2006, when
having grown tired of singing the same old (mainly Irish and Scottish) songs I decided
to leave the band. I took a break from music for a while, feeling that I needed to

Early in 2008 I decided that what I needed was a set of songs that I could call my
own and so I began to write and perform some original songs. This has resulted in
the making of my first album of original songs: Words And Music” which I recently
released via CD Baby and i-
I am currently writing more songs and hope to have another album ready by this time next year. My songs can also be heard at my page on Reverbnation.

Nowt will come of a Pocketful O'Nowt – (Shakespeare – King Lear – Act One: Scene One)
Pocketful O'Nowt is the brainchild of Mike O'Brien (formerly of The Z Men and the
Velvetones. No nobody else has ever heard of them either), and Paul Linley AKA the
BullyWee Man (Formerly of Highway 4 and The Unnamed Classic Rock Band).
Missing the dizzy heights of celebrity that their previous projects had taken them to, and craving the opportunity to make great music again, they teamed up to form one of the most important supergroups connected with Wath Upon Dearne in the twenty first century so far.
Billing themselves as an eclectic rock outfit, performing songs in a variety of styles, from out and out punk (What did we want – Thatcher Out!), rap (Beer and Crisps), powerpop (We met on the Internet) X rated sweary nonsense (Fuck!) through to tinkly bell filled hippy shite (Steve Peregrin Took) But through all these styles runs a golden thread of excellence, which can just be discerned if you listen very hard, with an ear willing to make allowances in the quest to find it.
At the time of writing, they remain a duo, due to the fact that they have failed to find a single person with a modicum of musical ability who is willing to join them on their venture, apart from that lass who was going to play the drums, but then broke her wrist. But watch this space, with their connections in the music business, there are bound to be some quality musicians coming soon... maybe.
Their ambition is simple, “if through the medium of our music we contribute in some small way to ensuring that Margaret Thatcher is never again elected as prime minister of this, or any other country, then we will have achieved more than we started out to do (apart from the bits to do with drugs and groupies)
One thing is for sure, nobody will be surprised if Pocketful O'Nowt sink without trace before very long. But then again, they said that about Status Quo, and no one seems able to shut them fuckers up.

More About Stompin' on Spiders
“Necessity is the mother of Invention” so it is often said and frequently, dire situations will inspire ingenious solutions. If worse comes to worst, people will apply all their imagination and skill to deal with the problem. And so it was that necessity bought together two musicians with very diverse influences and styles, to form a “musical collective” that has successfully spanned the divide between blues, rock and folk genres with its own very distinctive style and sound.
