A folk, punk ,singer song writer born and raised in Sheffield. a man who has been
in many local Sheffield bands in the past, just not folk ones. Who after living in
Galway in
Eire for two years fell in love with folk music. For all that the old Punk
is still in evidence which is where he is now!
As regards Davids influences , Mike Scott, Bob Dylan, the Levellers, the clash and some Irish west coast influences in the subject matter of some of the songs, with a bit of the stuff heard in Galway in the mix . Many more besides ,quite varied .
David has played quite a lot of gigs over the years in various places including the Cambridge
folk festival entertainment tent on coldhams common last year, As well as playing at the Filey folk club a number of times, as well as short spots at other folk type festivals when no one was looking and he got a chance to play!
He is not fond of following rules musically speaking but he does have a lot of respect for traditional music, even if his music is anything but. Don’t let the punk bit fool you as he does not shout, He does sing.

Florin are an experimental acoustic trio based in Sheffield, a collective drawing members from three well known local bands. Bob Humphries, lead vocals and guitar (The Lanterns) Martin Croft on double bass (The Rogues) and Rob Dickson on mandolin and vocals (from the Bluegrass Buddies).
What influences their music? “Pretty much any genre” explains Martin “although we’re
not really keen on the term experimental. If we cover a song we change the arrnagement
to change the sound.”
As Bob puts it “by stripping a big rock track down you can get to the essence of the feeling of that song, and that’s what it’s about for us, the feel.”
All accomplished musicians in their own right, you can look forward to a fantastic musical experience and their enjoyment of simply playing together is clear for everyone to see. “We just enjoy the music. It comes so easily, the lads are a pleasure to jam with and Bob’s got a great voice and his timbre is similar to mine so our harmonies work well together” says Rob.
Both Martin and Rob are multi instrumentalists which means that if a song needs a different sound the boys are well equipped to provide it.
What’s more Florin Gigs can become a harlequin of music making as they invite friends to join them in a song or two.
“We think the vocals are important” says Bob “so we try to get the harmonies sweet and close.” Rob’s Bluegrass experience coupled to Bob’s Rock lead vocal is an easy fit and makes for a fantastic sound.
Florin are a true acoustic Band, and the sound is developing all the time. So far their demo tracks are a little rough, but we cannot let you escape their brilliant version of “All Along The Watch Tower” , a classic of it’s kind, the track is added below.
You just have to see Florin LIVE -

Short Supply is the posh name for Kev the lead singer with The Rogues, living legends of the Pub / Club scene in Rotherham, Martin tells me.
Short Supply is Kev’s home made project,
where he demonstrates his fantastic writing
skills, the songs being far too complicated for the rest of The Rogues to perform,
(I jest).
In reality Kev is just a bit shy about his own material and I’ve had to drag him screaming from the bar of The Black Bull to get him to perform a set for Acoustic Rotherham.
Here’s what he says in his own words “Originally conceived as a duo. Put out one 7" single "The Day The Earth Stood Still". Now the side project of the singer from The Rogues (Rotherham) Mission: to put the pop into punk, the punk into folk. the folk into dance and the fun into all of them.”

Where did he come from? It might seem that Philip Cockerham has appeared from nowhere,
but the truth is that he’s been around a long time and spent a lifetime
playing,
writing and singing, in bands such as Jobe St Day, Luigi Anada De Boys, The Incredible
Cherry Tree Band, Harry and the Cats and many others, usually in the background,
but always making a critical contribution to the music he has helped to create.
His influence has often inspired others to pick up their own music and speak for themselves. In the last year, he has begun to emerge as a solo artist and other musicians are asking to play his songs.
Armed with just an acoustic guitar or a mandolin, he captivates audiences with songs in a range of musical styles. His relaxed and confident personality instantly engages audiences; putting them at their ease and making them feel they have known him all their lives.
What Others Have Said:
His songs have instant appeal, but one gets the feeling you will never grow tired of them......full of wit and empathy ...a lively hotpot of flavours. Highly recommended!
...the music is so good, poignant, powerful, joyful, funny, moving and clever...
His command of the guitar shows a lifetime of experience and attention to the music which he clearly loves…
... a man fast making a impression on the acoustic music scene with his witty and thought provoking songs.
He sings with passion, authority and humour about things which many of us only think.
Perhaps it’s only now that the rest of us are beginning to catch up with him. Everybody is now talking about this “new boy on the block.” Watch out for him! He’s going to be around for a lot longer!

Camm are a somewhat amorphous and venerable band. They’ve known each other for long
enough to have made a yard of albums. Unfortunately a lot more time’s been spent
debating music rather than actually recording it. All the members have a South West
Scotland connection: Dave and Glenn live in Galloway on an almost full-
At one time, things were simpler, all four lived within a few miles of each other
and met up more frequently than they’d ideally have liked. To while away the monotony
of circular conversation Gary would take out his National guitar, shining like the
nearby River
Bladnoch (that’s the guitar, not Gary, he latter rarely shines but occasionally
glints) and left-
Dave, as accomplished on accordion, flute, piano and guitar as he is at wood turning, readily and ably followed the drift. Hugh, wreathed in smiles and appreciative reverie would sometimes be invited to join in, while Glenn vacillated between wanting to take the lead and play his own stuff.
Infrequently but magically it would all come together in a jolly sort of way – four disparate songwriters listening long enough to each others’ styles to find a harmony.
The songs written by the four are many. They tell of sinking boats and mushrooms,
the spirit of youth and drowning in wine. The songs they can play as a unit are few
but well-
The influence of Scotland is there. Some may even manage to detect it.
Husband and Wife team First Fall are well known on the South Yorkshire

for their simple yet haunting blues arrangements. Nigel’s mastery of the guitar
